Private accessible transportation refers to transportation that caters to individuals with impairments. While not necessarily in the public sector, private transportation includes volunteer driver programs, para-transit services, and ride-shares which must comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

PRIVATE TRANSPORTATION SERVICES MAY NOT

The ADA guarantees people with disabilities equal access to public transportation. Public transportation providers cannot refuse to provide anyone with transportation because they have a disability.

Do NOT discuss anything with anyone that you have observed while volunteering that involves a patient outside of HealthTran. Sharing with friends a situation with a patient that you saw when volunteering –even if you do not use any names. Mentioning to your parents/spouse friend/priest that you saw someone in the hospital –that is a breach of confidentiality and a HIPAA violation

Volunteer Discipline:

Contractors and volunteers of state agencies that receive, create, share or store protected health information are responsible for implementing and complying with the HIPAA privacy rules. The HIPAA Privacy Rule establishes minimum safeguards to protect confidentiality of an individual’s health information

Volunteers must comply with HIPAA regulations Volunteers are required to sign a HIPAA confidentiality agreement and when warranted attend advanced HIPAA recurrency training for updates

It is your duty as volunteer to report any breach of confidentiality that you observe.
