Knowing Your Notifications

If you’re anything like me, you have an endless stream of notifications coming in on your phone and into your email. Often times we are happy to receive these alerts because they let us know that someone is trying to connect with us. But, there are times when they just clog up our inboxes. You want to be able to keep up with what is going on, but the amount of notifications coming through just makes it annoying.

Thankfully, CAB has a solution to this issue! You have the ability to control what notifications you receive and how you receive them. Yay! This week, I will walk you through how to adjust your notification settings so that you can stay in the loop without getting bombarded by all of the alerts.

Back on our home page, there are a few different ways to get to your notification settings. I am going to take you through the simplest route. When viewing your profile, there is a taskbar along the left side of the screen. There are several icons that offer you different tools for what you might need. Second from the bottom is the gear icon which indicates your settings. Click here!

Doing so will take you to your settings page. There are several things that you are able to control here, such as your password and email. This is also where you will find your notification settings! There is a tab that is located specifically for this in the little menu to the left.

Once you are in your notification settings, you will see a “Preferences” and “Subscriptions” tab at the top. We will start with your preferences! One of the great things about CAB’s notification options is that you are able to choose if you would like the updates sent to your email directly and/or if you’d like to be notified by an alert on your computer screen. As you scroll down the page, you will find that there are a lot of options for what you want to notify you.

As you can see, you can choose which way you want to be notified. You can also choose to not be notified at all! When you continue to scroll down, you will find the settings for all of your interactions on the website. If you are a part of discussion posts, groups, or courses that you want to stay up-to-date on, you can choose to have them notify you as people post in them.

Back to our two options at the top of the page, I want to highlight the “Subscriptions” tab for a moment. Maybe there are specific groups, discussions, or forums that you want to notify you rather than having all of them do so. By clicking on this tab, you can see what you have subscribed to in order to receive notifications. If you decide you don’t want to subscribe to them anymore, this is where you are able to remove them.

Part of successfully engaging with others online is being aware of what is happening while you are away from the website itself or from your computer. Notifications allow you to do that! These settings help you to optimize this process in the best way that works for you.
